A big problem that can limit the flow rate of a reverse osmosis (R.O.) system is the precipitation of some salts that are dissolved in the feed water. If there is no dosage of specific products, common salts such as calcium carbonate (CaCO3), calcium sulfate (CaSO4), barium sulfate (BaSO4), and strontium sulphate (SrSO4) but also less common such as silica (SiO2 ) and calcium fluoride (CaF) can damage membranes. Avista Tecnologie has formulated a series of anti-precipitant / dispersant products for R.O. The formulation of these products prevents the precipitation of salts and helps the dispersion of colloidal particles. This prevention contributes to the maintenance of the flow characteristics of the R.O. in addition to lengthening the life of the membranes themselves and reducing the frequency of washing. The application of Vitec ® also eliminates the need for acid dosage while maintaining the desired recovery rates.
